Welcome to Night Vale Wiki

You have reached the voicemail of Cecil Gershwin Palmer. That might seem like an easy thing to do, but think about how long you had to stay alive just to learn how a phone works and who I am. Congratulate yourself on that. Give yourself a vigorous pat on the back, and…don’t forget to leave a message after the heavily distorted sample of a man saying “I just couldn’t eat another bite."

"Voicemail" is the 65th episode of Welcome to Night Vale. It was released on April 1, 2015.

Synopsis[]

You have reached the voicemail of Cecil Gershwin Palmer.

Plot Development[]

  • Carlos / Do Not Approach the Dog Park / The Other Empty Desert: Carlos and the masked army in the desert other world come across a group of people who have been wandering aimlessly in the desert for exactly two years. When he discovers that they were the citizens of Night Vale who were trapped in the dog park during Poetry Week, Carlos realizes that the desert other world is the dog park.
  • Lot 37: Mayor Dana Cardinal leaves a message saying that she didn't purchase the lot.
  • Kevin: Kevin from Desert Bluffs is revealed to be alive by leaving a message on Cecil's phone. In the message, he says that he's been working on something that he wants to show Cecil and that Cecil will "be just jazzed about it."
  • Fey: Fey somehow manages to get to Cecil's voicemail, and sings a bit of "Roar," revealing that--though once again trapped reading the numbers--she may be regaining sentience.
  • Mayoral Coup: Hiram McDaniels, posing as Frank Chen, leaves a message asking if Cecil has heard about any plans being instigated by the Faceless Old Woman.

Proverb

Instead of a proverb today, I just have some important news about the stray cats that live outside my apartment. There is the usual one, named Bisquick, who is missing one ear and is terrifying, but today, I saw a second one who is fatter and less terrifying, and who I've named the Baron. I will keep you updated as events unfold.
— Meg Bashwiner

Notes[]

  • Cecil himself is only heard in his recorded voicemail greeting at the beginning of the episode. The majority of the episode is dialogue from guest voices.
