The subway system in Night Vale suddenly appeared one day, despite there not having been any construction for it. It was open for a brief period of time before being shut down for construction, and was reopened three years later.
The Night Vale Transit Authority, who supposedly are responsible for the subway, did not exist prior to its appearance. Just as with the train to Red Mesa, roaches with text on their backs are used for promoting the subway.
