Life should be like a basket of chicken wings: salty, full of fat and vinegar, and surrounded by celery you’ll never actually eat, even when you’re greedily sopping up the last viscous streaks of buffalo sauce from the wax paper with your spit-stained index finger.
— Cecil

The Desert Flower Bowling Alley and Fun Complex is a Night Vale business owned and operated by Teddy Williams. Locally, the Desert Flower Bowling Alley and Arcade Fun Complex is well known for its bowling, arcade games, beer, buffalo wings, and the mysterious underground city located beneath the pin retrieval area of lane five, whose tiny inhabitants are intent upon conquering Night Vale. Night Vale Community Radio host Cecil Palmer is particularly fond of the Desert Flower's chicken wings.[1]

The Desert Flower is located next to the Moonlite All-Nite Diner.[2]

History[]

Little is known of the Desert Flower Bowling Alley and Arcade Fun Complex before the discovery of the underground city and its apparent intention to march to war against the surface world in June of 2012. The business mostly continued to operate as normal following the discovery, although Teddy Williams did offer half-off bowling and a free basket of buffalo wings with every game, citing the fact that "nothing really matters now."[1]

As the threat of war drew closer, Williams took to both locking and barricading the Desert Flower's doors at closing time to prevent the mysterious and presumed malevolent inhabitants of the underground city from running amok in Night Vale.[2] However, the situation didn't interrupt the daily operations of the Desert Flower until June 15, 2013, the day the underground city's invasion force finally arrived. The invasion had the unfortunate side effect of ruining Jeremy Godfrey's fiftieth birthday party.[3]

Although the majority of Night Vale's inhabitants seem to have largely ignored the war with the tiny inhabitants underground city, it has taken a toll on the Desert Flower Bowling Alley and Arcade Fun Complex. As of April 15, 2014, the Desert Flower has been badly damaged by the war, although it is still running its weekly bowling league.[4]

Expansions and renovations[]

A skating rink opened in February 2016.[5] Teddy Williams clarified that the skating rink is not above The Underground City, but is instead on a pet cemetery and is haunted by the ghosts of pets.

During Episode 91, the Laser Tag Adventure Pit re-opened after 20 weeks after Teddy finally lowered the power output of the lasers.[6]

Takeover by StrexCorp[]

During StrexCorp's company picnic, Teddy Williams was too "busy" to pay his lease, so the underground city inhabitants have made the building their headquarters, renaming it the Cathedral of Huntokar.[7] The Complex was later restored to its former state.

Alien abduction[]

At one point, the whole Complex was abducted, along with its Daytime Shift Manager, Samuel Barkway. The Complex is later returned, but the aliens put it when the City Hall used to be, and facing the other way. Additionally, the NBA Jam machine is replaced with Galaga.
